What are lifting accessories and what are they used for?

Lifting accessories are mechanical components designed for the secure fastening, connection, gripping, and lifting of loads, using cranes, hoists, or conveying systems.

They are used to create a temporary or permanent connection between the load and the lifting equipment – while maintaining safety, stability, and suitability for varying load conditions.

What types of lifting accessories are there?
  • Eye Bolt: A simple connection for loads – available according to DIN580 standard or as a swivel eye bolt for varying loads.
  • Swivel Lifting Ring: A safety accessory allowing 360° rotation and work at various angles.
  • Swivel Anchor Point: Designed for dynamic loads – common in the heavy equipment industry.
  • Lifting Slings: Textile slings with loops, for lifting delicate loads or loads with soft surfaces.
  • Lifting Magnet: A solution for lifting metallic raw materials – does not require a mechanical connection.
  • Chain Slings (2 or 4 legs): Allow multi-point lifting, load balancing, and risk reduction.
How do you choose the right lifting accessory?
  • Load Weight: Choose an accessory according to the Working Load Limit (WLL) – never exceed the permitted limit.
  • Load Shape: For delicate surfaces – prefer slings. For metals – magnets. For heavy loads – rings or chain slings.
  • Lifting Angle: The wider the angle (above 45°), the stronger the accessory required.
  • Movement or Rotation: Choose swivel accessories to prevent side loads and wear.
  • Environmental Conditions: For outdoor work – ensure corrosion resistance standards (coating, material).
What is the difference between a lifting ring and an anchoring ring?

A lifting ring (Lifting Point) is used for temporary connection during lifting. It is designed for repeated removal and attachment.

An anchoring ring (Anchoring Point) is designed for permanent fastening to a structure or fixture – for example, at fixed anchoring points on floors, trucks, or molds.

What is important to check before using a lifting accessory?
  • Ensure there are no cracks, deformities, or signs of wear.
  • Ensure the load marking (WLL) is clear and legible.
  • Check that the connection to the load is made at an appropriate angle and without side loads.
How does the lifting angle affect the permissible load?

When using multi-point accessories (such as chains or slings), the angle between the legs has a direct impact on the load the accessory can bear.

  • 0°–45°: Ideal – the load is well distributed, without dangerous side loads.
  • 45°–60°: Permissible load decreases by approximately 30% – ensure the accessory is suitable.
  • 60°–90°: Not recommended – the load on each leg is significantly higher than the lifted weight.

Recommendation: Use legs at the smallest possible angle, and consider using a swivel ring to reduce side loads.
