Ceramic Grinding Wheels for Cylindrical Grinding

Ceramic Grinding Wheels for Cylindrical Grinding

Ceramic Grinding Wheels for Cylindrical Grinding (Cylindrical Grinding Wheels)

We supply ceramic grinding wheels for external cylindrical grinding to customer specification – including adaptation of dimensions, grit, hardness and Bond type for stability, accuracy and uniform finish. Suitable for grinding shafts, sleeves and round parts on cylindrical grinding machines.

  • Made to order – fully matched to the machine, the material and the workload.
  • A wide range of specifications – ceramic/alumina abrasives and other series, according to application.
  • Adapted to quality requirements – stability, geometry retention and uniform finish over time.

Key Advantages:

  • A dedicated solution for external cylindrical grinding – high accuracy and repeatability.
  • Option to select grit according to the goal: material removal / accuracy / finish.
  • Option to select hardness and structure to reduce heating, prevent "burning" and improve service life.
  • Matching of Bond to the nature of the work (e.g., Vitrified / Resin and others) – for the right balance between grinding rate and finish.

Common Applications:

  • External grinding of shafts, pins, sleeves and round parts.
  • Precise machining and finishing for serial production or maintenance.
  • Industrial applications in steels, stainless steel and hardened materials – according to the specification selected.

Parameters to match (what the customer selects):

  • Dimensions: Diameter × thickness × bore (D×T×H) per the machine and application.
  • Shape: Common shapes in cylindrical machining (e.g., 1A / 5A and others – as needed).
  • Grit: Wide range from coarse to fine (e.g., 24–220), per finish and material removal requirements.
  • Hardness (Grade): Soft / Medium / Hard – according to the material and heat build-up.
  • Bond: Matched to the type of work, speed, cooling and finish requirement.

Dimensions and grits – common options on request:

Diameter (D)Thickness (T)Bore (H)Available grits
200–250 mm20–32 mm32 / 50.8 mm24, 36, 46, 60, 80
300–355 mm25–40 mm76.2 / 127 mm24, 36, 46, 60, 80, 100
400–500 mm40–63 mm127 mm24, 36, 46, 60, 80, 100, 120

*The table shows ranges of common options. Final selection of grit, hardness and Bond type is made according to the workpiece material, grinding conditions and application requirements.

How to choose correctly (quick guide):

  • For high material removal: Coarser grit + more open structure + hardness matching.
  • For accuracy and finish: Finer grit + Bond/hardness matching to prevent heating and marks.
  • So we can specify quickly: Send the workpiece material, part diameter, speed/RPM, cooling, and finish requirement (Ra).

Grit selection by workpiece material (professional guidelines):

Workpiece materialRecommended gritGrinding objectiveProfessional notes
Carbon steels / mild steels36 / 46 / 60Material removal, refurbishingOpen structure recommended to prevent loading
Tool steels (HSS, D2, SKD11)46 / 60 / 80General grinding and accuracyBalance between grinding rate and finish
Hardened steels (55–62 HRC)60 / 80 / 100Accuracy and finishWheel hardness matched to prevent overheating
Stainless Steel60 / 80Stable grindingA suitable Bond for heat dissipation is important
Cast iron36 / 46Material removalFast grinding, less sensitive to heat
Hard alloys / special materials80 / 100 / 120Precision and fine finishCorrect Bond selection is critical

*The recommendations in the table are general and intended to assist in defining the specification. Final selection of grit, hardness and Bond will be made according to machine data, speed, cooling and finish requirement.
